Thanks, Gemini

Verene, thanks for the tutorials! That tutorial I mentioned early talks about thinking of the curls in a 3D way so I'm going to do that last after the armor so I can have them interact with each other. On a side not, I saw Tangled yesterday, and so many times during the movie, I was like 'I wish I could draw that hair!' Oh, another thing, I keep coloring her hair pinkish because it looks like pinkish shadows in the ref shot. Do you want pinkish/blond hair or more of brown/blond hair? I'm also going to redo the eyes so let me know if you have a color preference other than violet It's a busy week this week (why isn't it still the Thanksgiving holiday?!?!) so I probably won't have another update until the weekend D:

Her hair is pinkish-blond, yes And looking at a zoomed-in shot from the makeover NPC, her eyes are a light grey with some purple mixed in.

And yeah, curls are hard to deal with, I usually do the hair last so that way it'll interact with everything else properly.

Yeah, there are a ton of brush options for you to play around with. I'm not familiar at all with Elements, but I can only guess that their brush panel is somewhat advanced. Try searching google for brush types that work in Elements. I'm sure you'll find something there that works a lot better than the default brushes.

Working here and there on Verene's ranger during breaks I thought I could somehow turn this into a Wintersday entry, but I don't think what I want to do will work since I'd have to change a lot to make it happen

Anyway, she was supposed to be all fierce in the starter sketch, but now I feel like she came out looking kinda vulnerable... Working from top down, so next up is the armor top I half-hazardly sketched in

i LOVE her eyes thistle! and the freckles are cute ^^
my only real critique at this point is that i think her nose should be a little wider. her face is very round and her nose looks a little out of place with how narrow it is.

I agree with frostkisses, her nose is a little too small for such a large face. But otherwise her face is so beautiful! And her eyes definitely look great.

That looks awesome Thistle! Again, better than your previous ones. Perynne and Frost are right about the nose though. I myself am having a hard time with noses still lol

Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out what was off so I kept mucking with the lips and jawline... I didn't even think of changing the nose! <3

Looks really nice! And yes, making the nose a bit larger will make it fit in better.

tried to change the nose, but had some trouble D: I managed to make it a little bigger I think... Also played around with layer settings to get the hair color closer to the reference images and worked on the torso a bit

Very good Thistle ^^ Loving the eyecolour. You might want to darken the outlines of the eyes a bit aswell as the outlines of the nosewings. Dont be afraid to use more contrast

I think somewhere between that and the original purplish hair color you had for her would about hit it perfectly. Yes, my Ranger has unnatural hair XD

The texture on the armor is spot-on perfect

I've mostly just been lurking, but I wanted to stop by and tell you how great that looks. She's beautiful! You improve so much with each picture. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread to watch for that "Closed" to change to "Open".

Thanks, Tommy I keep thinking I'm overdoing the contrast, but then when I post, I realize it does need more D: I guess my perception is way different when painting and then seeing it later resized in a different setting :/

Lol, Verene, trying to figure out that hair color is so vexing XD I'll probably redo it for hair attempt #6 (or #7? lost count!).

Thanks, Drelias I actually wasn't planning on reopening for a few months while I've got the three I'm working on now, Omens' redo (to make up for the muddy B/W sketch D: ), some random GW pics for stories, and some non-GW art I want to work on. But, if you like and don't mind being in the queue with all the other stuff, I can go ahead and add you to my list now (although I probably won't be able to start until Jan/Feb/March or so). Since we're in the same alliance, I can give you the spot I had been saving for a guildie since no one in SOR wants a pic made D: QQ D: QQ D: QQ

I found this very usefull when its coming to realisticly painting faces. What my suggestion would be, is place that palette in your painting for Verene, use eyedropper to suck up colours from the face you chose, and start painting over the picture for Verene in another layer (ofcourse it could be another painting too ofcourse ). Then when you think it looks good then hide the layer and show it again and see the difference and what you like better. When you paint you oftenly get used to things and don't see it anymore if its too dark or too flat or too light, etc. To see it its the case such things always help me (aswell as adjustment layers ) Might work for you too ^^ But don't use the palette everytime

I already linked that colour palette to her earlier. She's been using it on this one. It's been really useful for me as well, thanks for giving me the link before.

@Thistle: Looking really nice! I love the texture on her armor, and her hair is turning out really nice too. The nose is looking much better also, though like Tommy's pointed out, you might want to add some darker highlights to the side of the nose to make it pop out more.

@Thistle: Oo, I'd be honored. <333 Thank you! I don't mind a wait at all. Let me know when it gets to be around my turn and I'll pull up a couple characters for you to choose from. (I might still tweak my favorites a bit here and there until then)

Fff, whhyyyy would no one in SOR want one of those? D: Even before all the improvements, your art was pretty good.

haven't had a chance to draw this week T_T

Lol, I LOVE that link, I'm so using that as my crutch until I get used to finding colors myself.

Thanks for the tip, Tommy. I actually tend to make multiple back up layers when I'm making major changes (instead of just painting on a new layer). Problem though is that I don't delete them and them my computer starts yelling at me D:

Ok, Drelias Thanks! I guess we don't have art people in SOR, but at least I have an art buddy in the alliance {hug}
